Nicola Collin

Head of Services

Nicola’s approach

My focus at Leuchie is on creating a comfortable, safe environment for our guests. By making sure everything is in place so they have the facilities and specialised equipment they need, as well as all the comforts of home, we can lay the foundations for the best possible holiday experience. It also means that their families can relax in the knowledge that their loved one will have everything they need to be well cared for.

With responsibility for all the non-clinical aspects of Leuchie’s operation, my role involves managing our facilities, housekeeping, general assistant, reception, catering and guest engagement teams, as well as producing the nursing and care staff roster. I love the variety this brings and that every aspect of my job is about providing an environment from which every guest can benefit.

It also gives me the chance to be closely involved with our guests, resolving any issues and making sure they have everything they need. With so many guests coming to stay at Leuchie regularly, it’s great to be able get to know them well and to build a detailed picture of what helps them to be happy and comfortable.

I honestly can’t imagine working anywhere else. Seeing on a daily basis the pleasure our guests get from being here and enjoying everything that’s on offer is extremely rewarding.

Work life before Leuchie

I joined Leuchie House in 2002 as a care assistant, having worked as a support worker first for Bupa, then for Capability Scotland. After completing professional health and safety qualifications, I took on the role of health and safety adviser for MS Society Scotland, still based at Leuchie. When that post was made redundant, I moved into the facilities manager post and the rest, as they say, is history!

Life beyond work

Weekends for me are all about making the most of village life from our home in the Scottish Borders, as well as walking our dog and enjoying the countryside. You’ll also find me working on my allotment or in the kitchen making my Hedgerow Harvest range of jams and chutneys, which I’m proud to say are now on the menu at my local hotel!
