Hi,
My name is Lorraine (pictured on the front cover, with guest engagement manager, Victoria) and, as someone who enjoys respite breaks at Leuchie House, I am very proud to introduce the charity’s new Brochure and prices for 2023.
I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2011, just one year after I had completed 22 years’ service in the RAF. As anyone living with this or any other neurological condition can tell you, diagnosis is devastating but living with and managing it depletes all your energy and that of those who care for you.
My husband, Donny, and I had almost reached breaking point, exhausted and desperately in need of help, when we discovered Leuchie House – Scotland’s National Respite Centre. It has made such a huge, positive difference to our lives that we want more people to be able to experience what this amazing place offers.
Simply put, Leuchie House provides respite breaks of up to 11 nights in a beautiful country setting near North Berwick, East Lothian. But, with 24-hour care centred on the individual needs of its guests, a Leuchie break gives much more than a chance to rest.
While I’m at Leuchie, Donny gets a complete break, knowing that I’m safe and being well-looked after by a highly skilled team. And for me, the guest, there are many activities, trips and outings, entertainment and social events, therapies and treatments, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, an expanding programme of enabling technology to demonstrate and develop digital skills and opportunities, with healthy and delicious cooking and baking to sustain me. And if I just want to sit in the beautiful gardens and watch the wildlife, that’s fine too.
Leuchie House is a unique gem in the care sector, providing a truly holistic approach to respite care. The staff are simply amazing which just adds even more to Leuchie’s positive and energising environment. I want more people to know about it and this new Brochure gives a great overview of just how much the charity offers.
