The Moffats do the Kiltwalk

Hi, I'm Claire and I live in Musselburgh with my husband Robert who has MS and I’m his full-time carer. We have 3 children, Ethan 11, Tanithe 9, and Lucy, 19 who stays in Prestonpans. My husband stayed as a guest at Leuchie for the first time in February, 2020. He absolutely loved his time and received his much-needed physio. The other guests made him feel utterly welcome. I feel there is no place like Leuchie. It provides around the clock care, in a beautiful setting with a full range of services for people living with the long-term effects of neurological disorders and illnesses. This is the motivation for my fundraising. I want to help a local charity and establishment that does so well!

Recently I started an MS Support Group Facebook page which is going really well! Although called East Lothian MS Warriors it’s not exclusive to East Lothian and we accept members from all the Lothians, Fife and Edinburgh. It offers all aspects of support. We provide information on charities and from charities that could support group members. It’s also a place to chat, for members to tell their stories, share good news, and bad, and to share any other information that may help others. Once covid restrictions have relaxed there are plans to have group meets. Members are also welcome to mail and chat anytime.

When we heard about the Virtual Kiltwalk a group of us from this support group decided to do it! We’re doing 10 km for the Virtual Kiltwalk on the 24th April and I’m also going to cycle 40 miles for the Leuchie’s own Ride4Respite campaign with my daughter Lucy.

You can donate and keep up to date with our progress here:

I have fundraised before. I did the 5k in the Edinburgh marathon a couple of years ago for the MS society, before we had a connection with Leuchie. I wanted to support a charity that represented what affected us. When I was practising for this I was just running around the local area and presumed with it being what I thought was a starter marathon it wouldn't be too bad. But then, myself and my friend Lindsey, who was doing the marathon, went to do a trial run of the actual run a fortnight before. We realised it was up the full Arthur's seat!! You can imagine the feeling of horror, but we did it and my time was 44 mins. Not bad for a non-runner!

The Virtual Kiltwalk will not have the stress of Arthur’s Seat! I'm looking forward to the event as we're making a day of it so hopefully will be good fun and good laughs. Praying the weather is kind to us.

I enjoy cycling and looking forward to spending the time with Lucy doing the Ride4Respite cycle. Also Lucy’s not used to cycling so I'll find her drama quite funny cause she can be very dramatic which she claims is part of humour, I actually do find it humorous.

I’m just hoping in the current climate that we can pull together as many funds as possible. I'll be keeping the MS Warriors page updated with our progress so anyone is welcome to join to check it out. Here is the link to the Facebook page - it would be lovely to see you there!
