Why we need your help
Your support will mean the world of difference to the people who come to stay at Leuchie House, and to their carers and families.
Short respite breaks are a lifeline for most people living with one of the many neurological and physical conditions we support, and for the people who care for them – usually their spouse or a family member. For many carers the demands of a 24/7 caring role can leave them at breaking point. A respite break is an opportunity for them to have time away from their caring responsibilities, knowing that the person they usually look after is receiving round-the-clock care.
In the words of one carer, “You need regular breaks to recharge you betteries. Without Leuchie the only option for my wife would be respite in a care home. People with long term conditions need something better than that.”
It costs £3.04 to run Leuchie every minute. That’s over £182 an hour and £1.6 million annually to provide our tailored respite breaks for people and their families who are affected by long term conditions.
We rely on voluntary donations, fundraising, events and legacies for 45% of this. That’s £81 an hour being gifted by friends and supporters who believe in what we do. Every penny counts. Your help will ensure that we can provide over 6,200 respite days every year for people who need it most.
