Sir David Tweedie

What's your day job?
Chairman, International Valuation Standards Council. Former Chairman, International Accounting Standards Board.

When did you become a Leuchie trustee?

Why did you decide to become involved with Leuchie?
Like most of us I was attracted by Leuchie's mission and then 'persuaded' to join the trustees by former CEO Mairi O'Keefe.

What do you do as a Leuchie trustee?
Chair the board meetings and seek additional funding.

What do you get out of it?
The guests' delight in Leuchie and the important role it plays in their lives and those of their carers. Plus witnessing the outstanding kindnesses and consideration shown towards our guests by those who work with us.

Tell us one thing about you that we probably wouldn't expect:
At one stage I lived in Brazil and spoke Portuguese as well as I could speak English. As I was only two at the time, I spoke both badly and can now only remember the Portuguese for 'cockroach'. We lived in a mining camp!

If you could invite someone to Leuchie for afternoon tea, who would it be and why?
Princess Anne. She really cares about carers and through her exceptional workload is so very well informed. On her first visit she was even giving us contacts who might be able to assist us.

If you could wave a magic wand, what would the Leuchie of the future be like?
Financially self-sufficient and the precursor to much-needed Leuchies all over the country.
